The Pontifical Lateran University ranking in the GPA system is Top 50 / Tier 3.
This is obviously a very specialized institution, of interest to Catholic students. There are only 3 Pontifical universities in the THE ranking and 1 in the QS ranking. Yet, most people understand that “Pontifical” means established or recognized by the Pope and Catholic Church, which bring immediate recognition. For the GPA ranking, it was determined that testing one Pontifical university as a test case, and it was clear that the perception was very favorable. For Catholic students, attending a Pontifical University in Rome can be a very rewarding academic experience. PLU was chosen for its reputation among Pontifical universities, alumni body, and internationally famous library. PLU needs to communicate (web) and teach in English to remain the World Top 50 list, but its presence signal the level of prestige associated with Pontifical Universities notably those located in major European capitals.
